In 2018 the Corydon/Allerton Chamber took a new direction with the annual meeting and gave it a make over. After some brain storming, Denim and Diamonds was born with a Gettin’ Piggy With It food cook off themed dinner.
The cook off was open to any local restaurant or caterer in the area. Three categories of food: appetizer, main dish, and dessert would determine the winner. The catch being all categories had to include pork or bacon as one of the ingredients. This year’s winners were: appetizer- Littlest Cake Shop and Deli, Main dish- Hy-Vee, and winner of the dessert went to Steel Wheel.
Each year the Chamber awards a small business, large business and person of the year. Criteria for Person of the Year is as follows:
Contributes to the leadership of the community, contributes to the quality of life in the community, demonstrate the nominee’s qualities of leadership, cooperation and teamwork, the nominee inspires others to better server out community.
Small and Large businesses exhibit the following:
Contributes and promotes to the growth, stability and improvement of the area which the Chamber serves. Gives generously of themselves and/or staff in time and resources to the Chamber.
There was a live and silent auction throughout the night. Money raised at the Gala goes back to the community in the form of scholarships to graduating seniors in the county majoring in some sort of business with the intent of returning to Wayne County.
The evening wrapped up with a live band RikeR, who brought the house down.
